Touché

The more I think about it, the more I marvel at Ahmedinejad's political genius.

However predetermined US plans may be to attack Iran, at every opportunity, Ahmedinejad takes the lead.
"You are familiar with history. Aside from the Middle Ages, in what other point in history has scientific and technical progress been a crime?" the letter asks.
With one letter, Ahmedinejad set US military plans back at least a few months.

There is no way that the US can follow up this letter with a bomb without destroying whatever's left of its image around the world - and setting us up for economic disaster.

Now, for the US to attack Iran (with the least political fallout), there has to be a hostile intervening incident to neutralize the conciliatory gesture embodied by this letter.

Touché.

Pure political genius! In one stroke,
1. played to Arab sentiments
2. eclipsed Osama
3. reconciled with Sunnis for helping America in Iraq
4. converted Bush and Condy into bumbling idiots.
5. played to China (western democracy quote)
6. split Christian coalition from Bush
7. forced US's hand on Hamas
8. bought himself time
9. wrote himself into history books

Whichever side we stand on (pro- or anti-Iran), we need more academics in power, and less Bush's and Saddams.

I read the letter earlier today and I must say what a genius President Ahmedinejad is to have crafted it! I find it funny that such a letter was sent to our bumbling fool in chief! I liked the line about "You are familiar with history." Cracked me up, but Iran's president wrote it in such a way that it did not come across as that Bush knows shit about history! It is one of the most smartly and humbly crafted letters I have had the pleasure of reading. Touché indeed!

I admire the intentions of President Ahmedinejad but unfortunatley it is unlikely it will do anything to quell the US administrations absession with going after Iran. It may lead some to pause and think about Iran in a different light but that is it. To think that this administration will stop and take a breath of fresh air because of a letter the very guy they are going after wrote is a bit far fetched.

In the interests of diplomacy (the US say that they are keen to explore ALL diplomatic avenues - US Ambassador to the UK interviewed on BBC Newsnight last night, the US must respond to the letter from Tehran.

I like the section in Ahmadinejad's letter where he states:

September eleven was not a simple operation. Could it be planned and executed without coordination with intelligence and security services – or their extensive infiltration? Of course this is just an educated guess. Why have the various aspects of the attacks been kept secret? Why are we not told who botched their responsibilities? And, why aren’t those responsible and the guilty parties identified and put on trial?

Excellent Stuff.

C’mon Mr. Bush, let’s see you write a considered response you ignorant imbecile………

Many thanks for the comments, everyone.

Ahmedinejad truly is smart (far smarter than Saddam ever was, and no need to mention who else).

He may not be able to stop the people in Washington from doing what they intend to do. But, he sure is making it much more complicated than they had ever imagined it would be.

The letter by the way was not for Bush. It was for us.

Letter Is Irrelevant: Keep To Cultural-Historical Essentials
(Mighty Thor, 10 May 06)

Well u know, the letter fm Iranian leader wasn't bad, but not even one percent of people will bother reading it.

So will there be war?--I hope not. Judeo-oligarchs already got what they want so far: Orwellian "perpetual war...." Striking Iran could well be too much, too precipitous. Iran situation is surely a diversion.

We patriots gotta just keep going, calmly but steadily promoting antisemitism and reason in general, advancing, for example, idea true Christianity is properly and necessarily antisemitic. As long as free Internet is working Jews will help with their continuing "victories."

CONCLUSION: All we patriots thus need is honesty, accuracy, and incisiveness for journalism, continuing then to pray for insight and inspiration. Honest elections and death to the Fed. Thor
