8yr old Palestinian Girl Killed by Israelis
Wounded Palestinian children are rushed into the hospital after a house was hit by Israeli shelling in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya Monday, April 10, 2006. An 8-year-old Palestinian girl was killed Monday when a shell fired by Israeli artillery hit her house in northern Gaza, hospital officials and witnesses said. Thirteen others were wounded, ranging from one year old to 17, all members of the same family. (Hatem Moussa / AP)

The fighting with Israel has escalated in recent days, with militants repeatedly firing rockets into Israel and the army responding with airstrikes, artillery fire and attacks from naval gunboats.Typical.
A total of 17 Palestinians, including 13 militants, have been killed in the Israeli offensive since Friday.
There have been no Israeli casualties from the rocket fire.

This was clearly an accident (and I do not view accidents as war crimes and believe Israelis have a right to defend themselves against Palestinian rocket attacks that are being launched)...however...it demonstrates very vividly why peace in the Middle East is so essential. If nothing changes, only more and more children will continue to die.
What accident? When you fire rockets into a densely populated area, you kill people. No accident.
QRS, they did not aim for the small girl, and in all out war, unfortunately, this is what happens. The Palestinians are aiming rockets at Israelis, you are forgetting this. It is the innocents who are tragically hurt.
Anyway, peace is just more necessary now than ever.
You ignore the fact that no Israelis were even injured in the rocket attacks. For all we know, the rockets could have been fired into empty desert or sparsely inhabited areas.
In contrast, 17 Palestinians were killed because Israelis launched "airstrikes artillery fire and attacks from naval gunboats" into densely populated areas. The idea that that kind of force is an act of "self-defense" is not even plausible.
Israeli "Defense" Force is a gross misnomer. The attacks are both disproportionate and brutal and display an utter disregard for the lives of innocent Palestinians.
Go to hell, Jason.
What about these stories?
Defense Ministers of Israel warn soldiers to be careful to not harm civilians:
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1143498839955&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
The same article points out that the rocket launchers were doing so from civilian houses.
And you are wrong about the rocket attacks from Gaza. They are aimed at towns with populations.
The bottom line is that this is all out war - and sadly, civilians die in all out war.
QRS,
Thus far, the rocket attacks from Gaza have not been that successful, but so what? They are clearly building an artillery and trying to be as successful as possible. It makes sense, strategically, to try to elliminate the weapons materials before sophisticated weapons can be built. In the meantime, until Hamas stops shelling Israel (and trying to do more damage) innocents like that eight year old are killed. I ask Hamas: is it worth it?
Is any of it worth it? I don't believe all the lives lost will be worth it.
For a history of Palestinian shelling of Israel, go to the following wiki article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qassam_rocket
I want to add one thing. A 22 year old Israeli woman died from the Hamas rocket fire - so you are wrong - there was at least one casualty - so far.
(this is documented in the links I have)
Thanks for keeping us informed qrswave. Given that it is a non-white child who was murdered, we can be sure that we don't see it covered by the MSM becaue about 99 percent of white people don't care about non-white children, and we can also be sure it won't be covered at daily kos because as is obvious daily kos consists of about 90 percent SUV liberals who also don't care about the murders of non-white children (unlike cartoons-those they care about).
Gross oversimplication of Daily Kos and the situation in general, Citisucks.
The situation in the Middle East has been going on for so long, that sadly, this is but one death amongst many. After a while, people don't care anymore, as there is only so much of it you can take. It also is not "news" if yet another person dies in this conflict. Yet this board is just as guilty of the "crime" you speak of.
Far more people die and have died in the conflict between India and Pakistan - and yet there is not one post on this board about that. That's between "two brown people," so it's not as dramatic - but the death is still there. I have seen occasional (rare) posts about the Darfur - but again, that's between two black people - not so dramatic.
I am not even really criticizing here - just pointing something out. You bring up the news you think is important. Clearly, you don't think that news is as important.
Hello..
Accidents do happen VERY OCCASSIONALLY in Gaza as I see Miss R !!!

I have a post based on an article from http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/736009.html
Obviously, there are some iraelis that disagree with the genocide
miss r, i am now convinced that although your passion for this conflict is admirable, your sources of information are one-sided. I pray for all of those people on both sides of the conflict. It needs to stop!
