[one of them] a 6-foot-3 wide receiver [!!!].Gang-raping pre-teens, murdering families and whole communities, cutting babies' heads off, wearing their victims' ears as necklaces...

I'm too interested in the moral decay of the West. Perhaps it's the lack of religious education - or too much of it? I would certainly argue for the latter. It doesn't take a genious to realise that "do unto others as you would have them do to you".
...these headlines are becoming less and less shocking as we become desensitized and grow accustomed to thinking this sort of behavior is normal. Too bad the leaders of this country are too preoccupied fighting a bogus war on terror, that they cannot even address the 'moral decay' here at home.
It is interesting to note that the term "football player" is used in connection with this story, as if it were relevant.
Why not "magazine subscribers" or "registered democrats" or some other equally unimportant piece of trivia?
Did it take place in the stadium after the big game? Then what are we to make of the citation? Is it used to prejudice the reader against them, or to buy them an added measure of respect and awe?
Sickening when gang rapists and pedophiles are not simply refered to as what they are.
I see your point. However, I don't think that making football players look bad was the aim.
It's merely background information and it is relevant insofar as it (1) demonstrates that people who you might otherwise expect to have healthy attitudes about life are sometimes very twisted; and (2) gives you an idea of just how big these guys were.
Appalling, inhumane, and intolerable in a civilized society. Also a sign of very deep social decline.

actually, let's think about it, the media is smart in their use of vocabulary. "football player" = "african american". See, race is not an issue in this case, however, the media still wants to convey the fact that the rapists were black.
Football in an inheriently sexist sport. It is also used as part of the brainwashing exercises as people are brainwashed into artibitraily supporting one team or the other, just like people are arbitraily brainwashed into supporting the evilist countries on the planet (aka United States).
