"The idea of unilateral disengagement or realignment is over. It is over politically, psychologically as well as operationally," Peres was quoted as telling the top-selling Yediot Aharonot daily on Friday.This was a farse, a scam, a charade. Israelis never intended to leave the West Bank and they know it. They covet the West Bank for its land and its water. Its people they can do without.
"There will not be a manifold repetition in Judaea and Samaria (the southern and northern West Bank) of the withdrawal from Gaza. There will not be massive evacuation of the settlements," he added, giving three reasons.
He listed them as continued Palestinian attacks from Gaza despite Israel's withdrawal last year, fractured Palestinian politics with no one to take responsibility, and unfavourable public opinion in Israel.
Peres said Israel would instead hold talks with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, albeit bypassing the governing Hamas movement that does not officially recognise Israel's right to exist.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday that he had shelved his disengagement plan, which could have seen tens of thousands of Jews uprooted from Arab land and which was a cornerstone of his March election. Instead he said he wanted dialogue with Abbas.

So true. I will refrain. I did originally only argue for the benefit of others. It's pretty clear he is incapable of comprehension or just full of deliberate lies but I think he gets far too much attention on this blog and enjoys it. It's sad but true. Israel STEALS from Palestinians...
Land confiscation by military force is theft. As you all well know, Israel has confiscated approximately 60% of the land area of the West Bank for military use, for settlement construction, and for road-building. The theft has been unprovoked. None of this confiscation can be explained away as a response to Palestinian terrorism. Moreover, this violence takes land from Palestinians for the exclusive use of Jews--a vile form of ethnic/religious discrimination that compounds the violence and theft.
The forcible confiscation of natural resources such as water by a military administration or by armed settlers is theft, which is also violence. The indisputable fact that Israeli settlers use approximately ten times as much water per capita as the Palestinian inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza are allowed to use, and that Palestinians must often stand in line to obtain drinking water while Israeli settlers enjoy lush gardens and swimming pools, constitutes the worst kind of violence: a violence directed at a civilian population simply because of its ethnicity and/or its religion, or rather its lack of the right ethnic or religious identity--because it is not Jewish. The denial of the basic necessities of life and basic public services to a people because they are not Jewish is violence of such immorality that it takes one's breath away.

Yes, and even if they had (which obviously they did not) it also would not excuse or explain their abuse and murder of the human beings who lived on those lands even after the so called "defensive" war was over.
It would not explain or excuse their the continued theft and annexation of land even after their so called "defensive" wars i.e. trumped up excuses for land grabbing. That is a different issue completely.
Since when do countries "win" land by war and conquest anymore and why is that okay to do? What kind of warped thinking uses that as a legitimate excuse?
As for this defensive wars b.s. I don't agree...don't think anyone of good conscience could agree..with Israel's definition of a "defensive" war. It goes like this.
Drive people out of their homes and replace them. Continue to harrass and oppress them, get them angry, back them into a corner, and then wait for them to have NO choice except to fight back or complain. Claim terrorism, and then bomb them into smithereens. Go into areas where the so called terrorism occured, arrest or kill the people there as "collective punishment", bulldoze their homes and steal more land. Nice. Very nice. Defensive wars? Riiiight.
