Background about me, then a brief summation of the Mormon Church's origin that belies its true design. This is for those who are the uninitiated or heard about the Mormon religion with an "uninformed," prejudiced attitude.

This is not a statement of faith in affirmation. Quite the opposite, as exemplified below for the laypeople.

* * *

My parents are devout converts of the Mormon Church, officially known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or 'LDS' for short.

My father was raised a Catholic who swore like a sailor, fornicated, smoked and drank. He briefly dabbled in atheism after ditching Catholicism before he converted to Mormon religion in the mid-70's. My mother converted to Mormon as the only faithful member of the family with four surviving siblings (two deceased) that had converted (except for the cynical, crankterous father with history of alcoholism and abuse) from when she was 12. None of her siblings are faithful. Her deceased mother was a semi-active Mormon as a staunch Democrat who disagreed with Mormon Church's consistent conservative attitude.

My parents converted because the missionaries knocked on the door to introduce the persons to Mormon faith.

They were the young adults who met at a church dance. They fell in love and became engaged. They were issued the elusive temple recommend (despite the impressive global figure of approximately 12 million members, probably over a half million are issued temple privilege) after a rigorous interview process to determine the 'worthiness' of the interviewees in doctrinal obedience and purity, absent from premarital sexual contact, drugs, alcohol and other acts considered 'sinful' by the LDS Church bishopric.

They wedded and consummated the union. I was born 'in the covenant' as the first-born child in late 1978, the same year they were awarded the symbolic certification of temple admittance in the form of temple recommend card signed by stake president and bishopic.

My childhood was fraught with confusion. I 'never' understood the 'bizarre' elementary theology taught in Primary and Sunday School. The disbelief emanated from my spiritual and emotional negligence as the eldest child by my parents who focused on producing and rearing subsequent siblings (four).

Theological and historical doctrines were taught with regularity in Sunday School and middle/high school seminary classes. Such as that the founder Joseph Smith was a semi-literate farm boy who was advised by Heavenly Father, his son Christ and the Angels not to join any church because "all religions are an abomination in the sight of the Lord" and 'commissioned' to translate the unearthed gold plate that came to be called the Book of Mormon, that Jesus and Lucifer are spirit brothers, that there was a bloody war in Heaven, that early Mormons were persecuted because Wicked people (compelled by the influence of Satanic force) hated Mormon religion and wanted to destroy it by suppression through rape, violence and carnage, that the past and current presidents are considered to be seer, prophet and revelator and the doctrinal guidance of the Mormon authority must be heeded, etc.

Because my parents expected me to be a good boy, I pretended to be a deacon and a priest (Aaronic Priesthood) to please them. In my secret attitude, I questioned existence of 'God' and the veracity of the Mormon Church. I didn't know there is a word 'Agnostic' that aptly describe me when I was an adolescent. I was close to complete atheism.

Soon after relocation to Utah with my family after I turned 18, I began to research the early history of the Church on the Internet. Subsequently I researched at the university libraries to verify the physical sources that throw the divinity of the Mormon Church into question.

Mormon pioneer leader (migration to Utah, Idaho and Nevada) and second president Brigham Young delivered shocking sermons that cheerfully sanctioned blood atonement (killing 'bad' Mormons for committing sins such as adultery through brutal execution by disemboweling and piercing with sharp weapons) and revealed that Adam is God. "As God is, man may become."

Attainment of Godhood through temple rituals derived from Masonry, which the founder Joseph Smith was a member of. Joseph Smith fabricated Book of Mormon through plagiarism of King James Bible and utilizing some fantastical books as inspired source such as "View of the Hebrews" which concerned the now-debunked claim of Israelite Jew migration to America centuries before Columbus.

Smith's adventures of money digging (for which he was arrested) before Mormon Church was founded in 1830 soon after completion of Book of Mormon in 1829. Joseph proclaimed that Book of Mormon is the "most correct" scripture since the publication, yet there were significant verse alternation between the early editions of the Book of Mormon and recent editions. Especially noteworthy is that American Indians may become "pure and delightsome" instead of the original verse "white and delightsome" because the Indians were an accursed race (though, according to Book of Mormon, both were descended from Israelite Jew bloodline, with the 'wicked' rival Lamanites that destroyed Nephites to extinction in wars, which facilitated the burial of a gold plate compiling the history of the Americas and artifacts by the surviving Nephite Moroni in the grove near Palmyra in northwest region of New York) along with Africans as the 'Mark of Cain'.

There was widespread practice of polygamy as Joseph Smith proclaimed in the official Mormon paper 'Doctrine and Covenants' (which is considered holy along with another portion called "The Pearl of Great Price" as the complimentary supplement to Book of Mormon) that polygamy is the only route to attaining true Godhood in the upper level of the Heaven. (More on that later.) He coveted other men's wives and corrupted young teenage girls by marriage through his claim of divinity as a prophet who cheated on his loyal wife Emma by deception and adultery. He was a tyrant as a leader who led the thousands of believers astray, some to their doom as subject of mob violence and animosity due to the lawless and fanatical behavior of the early Mormons, and he was the commander of a Mormon militia called the Nauvoo Legion. Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum's death at the jail at the hands of the mob arose from Joseph's attempt to suppress free press by destroying the business that printed Nauvoo Expositor, which exposed Joseph's 'secret doctrine' in polytheism and polygamous affairs in sordid detail, by vandalism. Et cetera.

The further research I did, the more obvious the Mormon Church is not what it claims to be. Its design was of pure human origin. It 'constantly' revises history to mold to the official claims in history and doctrines. Its emphasis on 'truth' is a monopoly designed to deceive and extort contributions in tithing and volunteer work.

In other words, the Mormon Church is a total sham.

Mormon Church 'officially' renounced polygamy in 1890 in order to attain statehood in the Union (Utah, 1896) as the condition by the federal government that demanded abolishment of the practice as 'inhumane'.

Joseph Smith was an egomaniacal narcissist who invented the Mormon religion to make money, elevate power over the masses and partake in the pleasure of polygamous affairs. Brigham Young, who "saved" the Mormon Church from self-destruction with his tireless leadership after Joseph Smith's inevitable death, was a frighteningly powerful tyrant who had bloodied hands in the horrific period of righteous violence against the innocent and converted through blood atonement executions (some carried out by the Danites, a fanatical group of male adherents) and massacres (most famously, Mountain Meadows).

The Mormon Church rose from obscurity in the period of "The Burned Over District" in New England, where American religious cults flourished then vanished or merged in denominations such as the now-extinct United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing ('Shakers') and Seventh Day Adventist, to an internationally well-known religion that encompasses influence in politics, society, and finance.

The whole damned truth is, the Mormon Church is a demented and dangerous cult. Its true agenda is to control mind and soul for profit and permanent obedience by complete conditioning as a strictly business enterprise masquerading as a religion that claims to be Christian in spite of its astounding heresy (polytheism and Godhood theology). Not unlike the Church of Scientology and other smaller, equally dangerous cults.

Here is the video link to the March 15 episode of "Big Love" featuring depiction of temple ceremony in garment and behavior, exactly as reported prior to removal of the blood oath (the plea to die in agonizing pain & death by ripped tongue and disemboweled entails by Masonic-like signs if a temple member reveals the nature and procedure of the sacred temple rituals) in 1990. Presumedly because it was 'politically incorrect' and disturbing to the freshman temple attendees who are "forced" to witness and participate in the bizarre rituals to become acclimated after a period of time as new converts.

Temple Mormons are obliged to wear special undergarments as a symbol of purity and divine protection that may favor only the qualified temple members as more worthy than everybody else below them, to ascend to the top level of the Heaven called Celestial Kingdom, which may be only attainable by temple marriage.

And the uppermost level of the Celestial Kingdom allows the men who are deemed most loyal and worthy to become God to rule over their own planets populated with hundreds, if not thousands of spirit children sired with a wife.

Or wives, if one practiced polygamy prior to 1890 manifesto or as a male member of Fundamentalist LDS that retains the doctrinal origins of early Mormon theology taught by Smith and first few successors to the efficiently horrific and totalitarian control of women and young females treated as devalued and property to be used and abused (rape and/or incest by forced marriage) to bear multitudes of children. While young men are ostracized to existential despair and premature death (homelessness, drugs, crime, suicide) once boys become adolescent or reach adulthood.

Diagram of Mormon concept of the afterlife, where non-Mormons who reject Mormon doctrine are imprisoned at "Spirit Prison" awaiting baptism for admittance to one of the levels of Heaven.

Real, practicing, devoutly believing Mormons believe YOU, the disbelievers (atheists, apostates, freethinkers) and adherents/converts of other denominations, are destined for Spirit Prison or, worse, Hell unless you convert posthumously through temple procedure called Baptism of the Dead. The posthumously baptized members include the Jews who may have died in the Holocaust, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and serial killer Ted Bundy.

This is why the Mormon Church is an absolute, unambiguously insane and totalitarian cult.

However, as the rule of thumb, devout Mormon people are generally nice & generous. But some can be arrogant, self-entitled and uppity assholes, because they believe their religion is true, therefore they must believe in achieving "mortal perfection" which is an impossible human feat.

For more information, watch the somewhat even-handed PBS Frontline/American Experience documentary "The Mormons" for starters.

I conclude with the parting quote.

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:32

New King James Bible.

Joseph Smith hands the 'priceless' golden plate back to Angel Moroni

Yes, a poor farm boy, who just "discovered" some gold plates lying in a field, would most certainly bury the gold again to keep us rabble from actually seeing the plates.

What a bunch of baloney. Angel Moroni? More like Angel MORON and that's what one has to be to follow the LSD Church.

Don't forget to wear your special Mormon "Rapture" undewear, now available at all fine quality stores nationwide.

The Mormons tried to convert me when I was 16 (long story). My mom looked into it - there were some renegade Mormons who hired an Egyptologist and found out that the Egyptian plates that Joseph Smith had were nothing more than a document of an Egyptian funeral dirge.

Apparently, they looked into it further and found that Mormonism is a modern form of Ba'al worship.

Ba'al is what the early Hebrews worshipped, and is related to Moloch. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baal

The owl statue at Bohemian Grove is supposed to represent Moloch.

The Mormons, like the Hebrews' curse of Ham, also have this idea that blacks are inferior.

The Jehovah's came knocking on my door the other day - one of them told me that we are supposed to be forever 21 and living in an "earthly paradise" - which sounds a little Jewish to me.

I have a nagging feeling that if you looked into both the Jehovahs and Mormons you will find a lot of Hebrew influence.

It's been said that the Osmonds are mind controlled slaves, according to Fritz Springmeier and others.

Andie531,

Correction.

You are referring to the Book of Abraham (review of a critical work proving BoA as a fraud).

Yes, BoA nothing more than a funeral scroll. Joseph Smith bought some papyruses from antique dealer and made a fake translation to produce a new portion. He also 'partially' translated Kinderhook Plates, which turned out to be fake as a ploy by a group trying to prove Smith a liar and Mormon religion false.

The Book of Mormon golden plate had "reformed Egyptian" which, upon close examination, is obviously fake, as Classics Professor Charles Anton replied to early Mormon convert (one of the first who helped fund Joseph Smith's "secretive" work to produce Book of Mormon by "betting the farm", and the one who mysteriously lost the 116 Page manuscript) Martin Harris that 'reformed Egyptian' is "Greek and Hebrew letters, crosses and flourishes, Roman letters inverted or placed sideways, were arranged in perpendicular columns, and the whole ended in a rude delineation of a circle divided into various compartments, decked with various strange marks, and evidently copied after the Mexican Calender given by Humboldt, but copied in such a way as not to betray the source whence it was derived."

I do not know about how derivative Mormon religion is in terms of borrowed Hebrew teachings. I know Mormon religion is part Masonic (ripped off), part polytheistic (Godhood and degrees of glory) and part fiction (Book of Mormon based on the delusional claim of Israelite Jews' settlement in Americas).

Mormon religion is probably worse than Scientology in entrenched mind control with the factors merged to form the main argument Mormon religion is indeed a cult -- no ifs, ands and buts.

Rick,

The missionaries can be zealous in trying to convert because they believe that every person's soul "must" be saved from doom in Spirit Prison or Hell when non-Mormons die. They are extremely delusional as the subject of brainwashing since early childhood (when 5- and 6-year old children are repeatedly indoctrined in primary and family home evenings -- any younger before that is somewhat difficult to "force" belief into).

Opinion piece (for legal reasons):

The first place I worked in Japan as an English teacher was Interac, which is run by the Mormons (American and Japanese).

They would send teachers to teach English at companies like Fujitsu, Hitachi, etc.

Interac has a HQ in Utah.

You may be interested to know that two very prominent "gaijin" (foreigner) celebrites in Japan are Mormons (Kent Derricott and Kent Gilbert). Everyone in Japan knows them. They both speak fluent Japanese and have a great deal of influence on the public there. Gilbert is a millionaire because of all the business deals, tv appearances and goodwill he gets from the Japanese.

Gilbert claimed to be a lawyer. A guy I worked with said he couldn't find Gilbert listed in any atty. directory in Utah or the rest of the US. He appears to be riding on a technicality. Anyone can call themselves a lawyer if they graduate law school, however you cannot be an atty. until you pass the Bar.

Another (gay) guy I worked with said he was intimate with Gilbert's Japanese boyfriend, who Mr. G. gave a BMW to as a gift. KG is married to a Japanese woman, BTW.

You can find both these characters on YouTube.

I just so happen to be a Mormon. And yes I spent two years of my life as a missionary for my church. But it was not due to any mind warping experiences as a child but instead a firm revelation to me that it was the right thing to do. As a young man (in my highschool days) I fell away from The LDS religion and had no intentions of serving a so called "mission." But that all changed. I received a firm revelation that Jesus Christ did in-fact exist and that the kingdom of God had been restored to the earth through a Prophet. I served a mission in Texas and in my two years I was able to see 23 people converted to the True Gospel of Christ. It's not because of me or because of anything I did, but instead because of the spirit, speaking to their minds and their hearts the truth. I have been an active member of the church ever since and NOTHING could ever shake my testimony or beliefs. NOTHING!!! I know without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord restored his gospel to the earth in this time through the Prophet Joseph Smith who endured more heartache, pain and trials than many people could, and I know he suffered through it because he had a greater knowledge of what's to come after death than those who persecuted him. I know that he saw and talked to God and his son Jesus Christ and that their power was with him. I know that our lives do continue after death and that we can live with those whom we love forever, and become like God. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he will return again. And I know that anyone who is honestly willing to pray to the Lord, just as Joseph had done in the grove, will receive whatever they are looking for...for he that seeketh shall find.

Paul,

What are you doing here?

Stop preaching. You are deceived.

Joseph Smith was a liar who led people astray. LDS Church still lead people astray by the millions.

____________

Galatians 1:6-9, New International Version

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—

7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Book of Mormon is a false gospel. A complete fabrication. Sidney Ridgon and Joseph Smith invented the tale to start a new religion to make money.

I am in the LDS church and I know it's true because I prayed and asked God and through the Holy Ghost I have come to know that it is true. I have asked if the book of mormon is the word of God and through the Holy Ghost I am able to know the truth for myself. You can only read my testimony and depending on what spirit that you carry dictates whether you accept what I say and ask for your self or ridicule me. This is a warning from Act;5 v34 But one in the council rising up, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, respected by all the people, commanded the men to be put forth a little while. 35 And he said to them: Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do, as touching these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theodas, affirming himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. Who was slain: and all that believed him were scattered and brought to nothing. 37 After this man, rose up Judas of Galilee, in the days of the enrolling, and drew away the people after him. He also perished: and all, even as many as consented to him, were dispersed. 38 And now, therefore, I say to you: Refrain from these men and let them alone. For if this council or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest perhaps you be found even to fight against God. And they consented to him. This Quote is from the Matrix, The Oracle: It means know thy self. I wanna tell you a little secret, being the one is just like being in love. No one needs to tell you you are in love, you just know it, through and through. I hope you will all stop being hard hearted and become teachable so the Holy Ghost will show you all truth and the truth from the holy Ghost will set you free.

Nepos Libertas,

Only God can through his Prophet Joseph Smith restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the Earth once more to prepare the earth for Christ's second coming. And what a fantastic tale it is if the Holy Ghost hasn't told me it is true I would not have believed it too. Check pray or prayer in the Holy Bible index and see what you can find. The biggest fabricator of this story is God and all we have to do is ask the Holy Ghost if it's true or that He has a church on this earth at all and to lead you to find it. Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God I have asked God and through the Holy Ghost I know he is and I am set free please read Act;10 v28 and he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit any one of another nation; but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me." 30 And Cornelius said, "Four days ago, about this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel, 31 saying, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter; he is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the seaside.' 33 So I sent to you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord." 34 And Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. Daniel is another example of Prayer being answered. To truly be free one must have a Desire to want to know, Prayer and the Holy Ghost are the ingredients to all truth and by it shall we all be made free. Only through this method can we cast away man made doctrines and creeds and go directly to the source of all knowledge that is God and His Son Jesus Christ.

The Bible is a history of God's dealings with the people of the earth and an account of His supernal miracles. It was written for the purpose leaving a witness of the existence of God and to teach us how to live to be able to draw closer to God. If you believe in God, it's not hard to believe that God could demonstrate His existence today and teach us how to draw closer to Him.

A lot of the comments about Joseph Smith's history are presented as facts, but the evidence is not as concrete as they make it sound. In fact, there are many historians (Mormon and non-Mormon) studying the validity of the Book of Mormon and of Joseph Smith's works and they have found a lot of historical accuracy, evidence and support; some of which is quite phenomenal. A good source for the historical findings and facts is in the book Rough Stone Rolling by Richard Bushman. Bushman is a Harvard-educated Professor of History Emeritus at Columbia University.

First off, the LDS church is not a cult. A cult is a church based off another church, and the LDS church isn't based off of any other church.

And second of all, we don't believe that all non-mormons will go to spirit prison. We believe that when they die, if they don't receive the plan of God or don't believe it, they will go to "Spirit Prison", or more like a school, to be taught about the Gospel. It's not hell and we only believe that you go to hell if someone denys seeing a holy entity, which aren't very many people around who have actually seen one. I'm sorry you have such hate toward us and if you would soften your heart and actually learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ instead of trying to bash it, you might feel for yourself if it really is fake or the real thing.

I know this is the true church and I've lived it and love this gospel and it brings such joy in my life to know that I can pray to my Heavenly Father about anything and He will answer my prayers. No one has brain washed me into learning any of this for myself. I actually was at a point in my life where I didn't want to be mormon anymore and could have left and bashed it like you are now, but I prayed and found my answer that this is the true church and I won't find more happiness than here.

I think there is truth to what you say, but a lot of it is false, and you really have your facts mixed up. Can you cite credible sources? If so, please do, and get the truth out in the open. There is no use in bickering over opinion. The Mormons are consistently the most selfless people I have known. If not motivated by truth, they are at least motivated by love. If you think Joseph Smith was in it for money or sex, I think you are grossly oversimplifying the issue. He was poor his whole life and was killed for his beliefs. If you doubt the validity of his claims through logic, show us. And then try proving that your beliefs are truer than the Mormons. You can't. The only empirical honesty out there is in being an agnostic, because our info will always be incomplete.

Jesus wept -- why are so many religious zealots (in this case all you Mormon apologists) functionally illiterate and incapable of completing a logical thought or expressing a simple relationship in writing? Whether or not individual Mormons are kind has nothing to do with the fact that the Mormon religion is (1) derivative of other sources and ideas, (2) demonstratively incorrect in many of its statements and positions on it's history, sources, and inspiration, and (3) simply wacked when you take even the most cursory look at it's structure and core beliefs. Saying Smith died for his religion is like saying Jeffery Dahlmer died for his belief in necrophilia...just because he was killed doesn't mean his religion was right or even that he believed in what he was doing it...it's a straw argument.

I was born a Mormon and always Hayes having crap shoved down my throat, and lately I've been questioning the beliefs and structure of the church. I'm going to state my opinions here:

1 the whole, non-Mormons are going to "spirit prison" is retarded. I do not and never have believed in this.
2 the under garments are also quote unneccesary and just plain weird in my opinion.
3i hate how so many closed minded Mormons say how they know everything about the church is true without doing any research at all.

I can't explain or won't attempt at this time to argue or explain logically why I know that Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith truly was a prophet of God. But I do know the way my heart burns when I read it, the way I feel when I go to church, and the blessings I receive from living according to God's word. I leave you with this scripture John 7:17 "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."
