What happens when an American freelance journalist learns the facts about Israel and starts to inform fellow Americans?

She gets her life threatened.

After debating on "How Can Peace Be Achieved Between Israelis and Palestinians," on Thursday, October 2nd, 2003, Alison Weir and If Americans Knew received a voicemail message saying: "On Monday, 2 PM, you better not be in your office. Because me and my buddies, who were trained in the Israeli Army, will come and kill every single one of you." The caller said, "This is not a joke. On Monday you better watch out. Don't come to work. And close your organization or you're going to die."



Alison Weir is the brave soul that is behind the excellent web site, If Americans Knew .

She is to be commended and applauded for standing up to Zio-thugs and telling the TRUTH about Occupied Palestine.

I don't think Alison will be a guest of "Wolfie" Blitzer anytime soon.

If Americans Knew was originally founded by an American freelance journalist, Alison Weir*, who traveled independently throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip in February and March of 2001. Ms. Weir found a situation largely the reverse of what was being reported by the American media. Upon further examination of this issue – she read dozens of books on the topic – she found that the U.S. press portrayal was significantly at odds with information being reported by media throughout the rest of the world.

The Gaza Zoo reeks of death. But zookeeper Emad Jameel Qasim doesn't appear to react to the stench as he walks around the animals' enclosures.
A month ago, it was attracting families - he says the zoo drew up to 1,000 visitors each day. He points at the foot-long hole in the camel in one of the enclosures.

"This camel was pregnant, a missile went into her back," he tells us. "Look, look at her face. She was in pain when she died."

Around every corner, inside almost every cage are dead animals, who have been lying in their cages since the Israeli incursion.
Qasim doesn't understand why they chose to destroy his zoo. And it's difficult to disagree with him. Most of them have been shot at point blank range.
...The few animals that have survived appear weak and disturbed.

"The foxes ate each other because we couldn't get to them in time. We had many here." There are carcasses everywhere and the last surviving fox is quivering in the corner.

Inside the main building, soldiers defaced the walls, ripped out one of the toilets and removed all of the hard drives from the office computers. We asked him why they targeted the zoo. He laughs. "I don't know. You have to go and ask the Israelis. This is a place where people come to relax and enjoy themselves. It's not a place of politics."

I imagine the "world's most moral army" left their signature calling card in the zoo's main building by dropping clumps of their own feces all over the place and using some of that substance to write slurs against Arabs on the walls, like they have in the past in other Gazan home invasions.

Ask to be directed to the latest wave of Israeli destruction in Rafah's al-Brazil neighborhood and many fingers point towards the zoo.
Amid the rubble of dozens of homes that the Israeli army continued yesterday to deny demolishing, the wrecking of the tiny, but only, zoo in the Gaza Strip took on potent symbolism for many of the newly homeless.

The butchered ostrich, the petrified kangaroo cowering in a basement corner, the tortoises crushed under the tank treads - all were held up as evidence of the pitiless nature of the Israeli occupation.

"People are more important than animals," said the zoo's co-owner Mohammed Ahmed Juma, whose house was also demolished. "But the zoo is the only place in Rafah that children could escape the tense atmosphere. There were slides and games for children. We had a small swimming pool. I know it's hard to believe, looking at it now, but it was beautiful. Why would they destroy that? Because they want to destroy everything about us."

The army also initially denied that soldiers deliberately wrecked the zoo.

The destruction was comprehensive. The fountain and its tiles were a jumble of rubble in one corner. There was no sign of the swimming pool.

One of the ostriches lay half buried in the rubble. Guinea fowl and ducks were laid out in a row. Goats and a deer struggled with broken legs.

Some of the animals were still on the loose, if not buried under the debris. One of the two kangaroos was missing; the other was cowering in the basement. A snake and three monkeys were unaccounted for. Mr Juma accused Israeli soldiers of stealing valuable African parrots.

The army's explanation evolved through the day. At first it said it had not destroyed the zoo, then it said a tank may have accidentally reversed into it.

By the end of yesterday, the military said its soldiers had been forced to drive through the zoo because an alternative route was booby-trapped by Palestinian explosives.

Finally a spokesman said the soldiers had released the animals from their cages in a compassionate gesture to prevent them being harmed.

Tell one lie and if that don't fly, tell another. If that one fails, then tell another.

Using a tank to run over and crush slow moving tortoises is just one tiny glimpse into the true inner beauty of the Jewish soul.

I guess someone with class and sophistication could work out an intelligent sounding metaphor about the caged zoo animals being shot at point blank range and the caged Gazans being shot at point blank range, but I've never been accused of having class or sophistication.

I'll just have to say that Apartheid Israel and those invovled in these butcheries and those who support that Zionist nightmare are a bunch of no-good SOB's who are devoid of any humanity.

They're not human, but like that creature in "Alien" that used human bodies for a host, killing that person in the process while the rest of the monsters would kill anything in site..... except for their fellow monsters.

Rep. Jane Harman received cheers at the AIPAC policy conference this morning for attacking the wiretapping of her conversations with allies of Israel.

"This issue is obviously creating a chilling effect on hardworking bipartisan members of Congress who care intensely about the U.S.-Israel security relationship and have every right to talk to advocacy groups and our good friends about that relationship," she said, referring to "my alleged situation."

Harman promised to pursue the leaking of the wiretap transcripts, which she described as an "abuse of power."

"I will not quit on this until I am absolutely sure that this never can happen to anyone else," she said.

What Jane actually means is that she will wage a tireless battle to make sure it's safe for Israeli spies to steal as much sensitive info from the USA as they want.

Lamar Outdoor Advertising Bows to Pro-Israel Pressure: Removes Billboards and Stifles Freedom of Speech

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- An Albuquerque-based billboard company pulled ten billboards on April 28, 2009 that had featured a political message. The contract between a local grassroots group, the Coalition to Stop $30 Billion to Israel , and Lamar Outdoor Advertising was supposed to be for eight weeks; the billboards were taken down after only three weeks.

Correspondence from Lamar indicated that the company had received complaints about the billboards' message, which said: "Tell Congress: Stop Killing Children. No More Military Aid to Israel."

The Coalition has scheduled a meeting with Lamar officials on Friday. In the meantime, supporters are phoning Lamar to request the billboards be put back up.

On April 8th, the Coalition to Stop $30 Billion to Israel erected the billboards throughout the Albuquerque area in order to inform the public about the misuse of their tax dollars, denominated in human lives. The group was motivated by concern for the Palestinian people who had recently been subjected to a massive invasion of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military. Over 1,400 Palestinians -- mostly civilian, including three hundred children -- were killed and over 5,000 were injured. In 2007 the Bush administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides $30 billion of U.S. taxpayer dollars to Israel over a ten-year period beginning in 2008. The majority of these dollars will be used to purchase American-made weapons.

And the rest will be used to purchase American politicans.

Canadians help "Wipe Palestine off the Map"

Canada Park is a national park of Israel and a recreational area west of Jerusalem adjacent to Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut. It was founded by the Jewish National Fund in 1973, Canada Park is now a picnic area and tourist destination. The land on which Canada Park now stands formerly contained the Palestinian villages of Imwas, Beit Nuba and Yalo, demolished by Israel after the 1967 Six-Day War of Aggression and Dayr Ayyub, District of al-Ramla, ethnically cleansed 22,251 days ago in a brutal assault by the world's "most moral army."

Over 14,000 Palestinians were forced to move from their ancestral homes to make way for this "park." A "national park" that celebrates Israeli war crimes, which seems to be the Israeli pastime.

"Canada Park" Built on Ruins of Palestinian Villages

Overlooking the fertile Ayalon Valley between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv sits Canada Park, a 7,500 acre recreational area covered with pine forests. It is bisected by a winding path the John Diefenbaker Parkway named after the former Canadian prime minister who inaugurated it. Canada Park is a source of pride for the Montreal and Toronto Jewish philanthropists who in 1972 donated more than $15 million to help build it.

Dr. Zayid's story could be that of any one of the 14,000 inhabitants of Beit Nuba, Yalu and Imwas, the three demolished villages that once stood where Canada Park is now.

"My mother, sisters and an old uncle lived in their home there on the land which they and their forefathers had owned and cultivated for hundreds of years, " testified Dr. Zayid. "Israeli occupation took place and, except for my uncle who was immobile with long-standing arthritis, they were driven out for no good reason to Ramallah."

Israeli soldiers returned a few days later, according to Dr. Zayid. When his invalid uncle still refused to leave, "before his own eyes part of his house [was] blown up and he was told that this would happen to the remaining part on top of him if he stayed. In the same way the entire village was systematically blown up and later bulldozed."

Perhaps rubble from some of the 120+ mosques that have been destroyed by the Jews in Occupied Palestine are lying under the park.

Visiting Daddy in Prison: A Palestinian Ordeal

Palestinians wait to pass an Israeli checkpoint on their way to visiting relatives incarcerated in Israeli prison

Spending time with her dad requires that 6 year-old Jinan undertake a bizarre and arduous odyssey. Usually she travels alone, but last Monday, the Palestinian girl with the rosebud smile and bouncing energy was accompanied by her younger sisters Dania, 4, and Noor, 2, on the journey to the Israeli prison that holds her father.

At home in the beleaguered West Bank town of Qalqilya, as her mother dresses her before dawn in an almond-green blouse and jeans, Jinan asks the same question she always does: "Mommy, why does Daddy have to sleep on the Israeli side?" And her mother Salam Nazal comforts her by saying, "Because that's where the best Palestinian men go to sleep, and your father is one of them." The town, which has elected a Hamas mayor, is known as a center of Palestinian militancy, and Israeli security forces conduct raids there on average five times a week.

Salam cannot accompany her daughters because she is on an Israeli security watch list, although she has never learned why she's on it. Her immediate family lives in Jordan, so she must put the girls on a bus bound for Chattah-Gilboa prison inside Israel and hope that one of the many Palestinian women on board will help Jinan wrangle her sisters. "I'm so worried about having them go without me," says Salam, as she hoists her girls onto the bus, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). "But what can I do? This is their only chance to see their father."

Ali Nazal, 35, who sold clothes from a cart in the streets, is one of more than 10,300 Palestinian detainees currently inside Israeli prisons. Although he has yet to be tried, Nazal has been behind bars for the past two years. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of possessing weapons and harboring a fugitive — charges the family insists are based on false evidence from anonymous informers working for the Israeli security services. Salam says no weapons were found in their home but says the Israeli military demolished it anyway. The Israelis maintain that Ali was an active member of a militant organization and part of a cell that had been planning a terrorist attack.

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, Ali and his fellow detainees should never have been transferred to prisons outside the occupied territories. But since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza began in June 1967, more than 650,000 Palestinians have passed through Israeli jails. Nearly every Palestinian family has someone who was locked up in Israel at some point. Prison has become a rite of passage for rebellious teens and, for families seeking to visit detained loved ones, a nightmare of permits, checkpoints and body searches. It's not an easy journey for an adult, much less three unaccompanied tots carrying their lunch in a Barbie backpack.

Israel refuses to finance or arrange transportation for Palestinians making prison visits, leaving the task to the Red Cross. Every month, says Anne-Sophie Bonefeld, an ICRC spokeswoman in Jerusalem, her organization arranges the bus rides and bureaucratic paperwork that enable more than 20,000 Palestinians to visit relatives inside Israeli prisons. The Palestinian family-visitation program, which has been going on since 1967, is "the largest of its kind anywhere in the world," she says, although the number of visits has dropped slightly since 2007, when Israel barred families from the Hamas-controlled enclave of Gaza from making the trip.

For prisoner Ali, his daughters' visit is a rare treat. He last saw his youngest, Noor, when she was six months old. Now she walks and talks, and her moon-shaped, serene eyes seem to display perpetual bemusement over the whirlwind antics of her two sisters.

Qalqilya is encircled by Israel's security barrier, and at a checkpoint, the three girls dismount with the rest of the Palestinian passengers and are herded through a labyrinth of turnstiles, flashing lights, metal detectors and an X-ray machine that swallows up the Barbie backpack. Jinan and her sisters squirm through a turnstile too soon and are stranded in a security no-man's-land and yelled at by the disembodied voices of soldiers watching through closed-circuit cameras. When the girls finally emerge dazed from the checkpoint, Jinan runs over to a field of wildflowers and plucks a stem of Queen Anne's lace for her little sister.

Then the girls clamber aboard another ICRC bus, which is escorted to the prison by Israeli police. Skipping up the aisle, Jinan touches a man's bald head and asks, "What happened to your hair? Mine's soft and pretty." She snatches my cell phone and, within five seconds, has snapped a photo of a napping Palestinian woman and turned it into my screensaver.

Two hours later, the bus arrives at the high walls of Chattah-Gilboa prison. Nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been waiting up to five hours in shrinking shade for the 45 minutes they will spend speaking with their relatives on a telephone from behind thick glass. The glass has small holes that allow the prisoners to touch fingertips with their visitors. Jinan and Dania climb the metal bars of the turnstile as if it were a piece of playground equipment. A buzzer blares, and a light over the turnstile flashes from red to green. A guard calls out a few names, and the eager crowd pushes Jinan and her sisters aside.

Another hour will pass before the girls are let in. By then, Noor is hot and cranky, in tears, crying for her distant mother. Their pretty pink and green clothes are smeared with dirt. I volunteer to escort them inside, but the prison wardens refuse. Instead, a veiled young woman with pale-gray eyes agrees to escort them into the visiting room.

That morning, their mother had shown the girls a photo of their imprisoned father so the younger ones would recognize him. It showed a solemn, heavyset man in a training suit of the Spanish soccer team Real Madrid. "He's been memorizing the Koran. That, and lifting weights," Salam told me.

Jinan assumes her responsibility and grabs the hands of her two sisters. They vanish inside the prison, scared but eager, leaving me to wonder whether Jinan will remember any of the many earnest and loving messages entrusted to her by Salam to pass on to their father.

With so many Palestinians still locked up in Israel, demands for prisoner releases remain at the center of most Israeli-Palestinian political negotiations. Those behind bars are a lost generation of Palestinians, and it's a safe bet that their children, like Jinan and her sisters, will inherit their parents' bitterness toward Israel.
