Israel's going down and taking US with them

  • Jerusalem Post is asking for resignation of IDF generals due to their retreat from Bint Jbeil and their unpreparedness because of the overuse of the word 'terrorist'.

  • Times UK reports Nasrallah eclipses bin Laden and has 89% support among Sunnis and 80% support among Lebanese Christians.

  • In a slow controlled display of his arsenal, Hizbullah promises to reach Central Israel if Israel does not back off its air strikes in the next couple of days. This statement was by Nasrallah who, according to Mossad, never lies.

  • It appears the war was started by a personal insult: 'Nasrallah called the new team "small" and even made a dismissive hand gesture. Writing in the Haaretz newspaper, Doron Rosenblum said this insult to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his advisers virtually guaranteed Israel would launch a harsh military response. He said Nasrallah's short, pointed speech really kicked off the war. "Was it a clever trap laid by the wily fox?" Rosenblum wrote. "Or perhaps one uncalculated moment of catastrophic hubris."'
This is a battle neither party can lose. One strategist opines, 'if Israel loses, US position in Iraq will be untenable.'

To save the facade of the US 'war on terror', Israel must exercise unlimited 'scorched earth' policy to wipe out Hizbullah. Nothing less will do now. But it may already be too late - even a 'targeted killing' of Nasrallah will not help.

The strength of Hezbollah is the weakness of the West and Israel, that Nasrallah being struck down makes him a martyr of Islam and gives him and his followers a death that they pray for. But A Zion-axis leader's assassination would damage the psyche of the sheep-like followers permanently, after all, look at what JFK did to the US people. If Nasrallah is struck down, others will take his place and his followers will rejoice at his station in paradise.

I disagree with that analysis. In fact, it's not helpful at all to characterize the willingness to die for a cause as "a prayer" for death.

Muslims like all other human beings have an instinct to preserve their lives and the lives of their loved ones. In Islam one life is worth everything in the world.

However, because of their deep faith in God, good Muslims have such a strong commitment to justice that they are willing and able to sacrifice their natural attachment to this life in the name of Justice. This should not - and must not - be mischaracterized as a wish for death, as it is far from it.

It's an example of Muslim dedication to fight for justice in the name of God, even if it costs them their lives.

I also disagree with your analogy about JFK, but that's a different story.

Anyway, I agree that Hizbullah poses a threat to Israel. But, it is only because in their paranoid delusional minds, Hizbullah's mere existence is a threat to Israel.

Israelis want COMPLETE CONTROL of the Middle East. Anything short of that is defeat. However, one step short of Israeli victory does not mean - in any meaningful sense of the word - that Hizbullah "wins."

Sure, Nasrallah never lies but the Mossad has it as part of their motto. "Lie, lie lie and always blame the other guy". Or something like that.

Now that the war is not going israel way, expect to see a cease fire pretty soon. At the end of the day, nothing will have changed except for the destroyed country of lebanon. But then again, maybe that was the objective of this exercise all along....

Akber,
was the reference to Nasrallah's
speech supposed to be linked to
the transcript or excerpts?

qrswave,

You touch on a very important
point about the misunderstanding
in the West about the Islamic
desire to die. There is no wish to die among Muslims, it is a fallacy. The concept dehumanizes Muslims and personifies as something ultra subhuman. The Western mind never understood this type of dedication, the Native Americans in North America who fought using "counting coup" tactics, the slaves of Hispaniola (present day Haiti) that hurled themselves unto French, British and Spanish Cannons in the war of independence, the Japanese Kamikaze warriors as well as the martyrs of Islam are all lumped into this non-human crazed league. The better to kill them, after all, they are raving lunatics. The super evil monster that needs to be destroyed.

This misunderstanding is both due to the Western mindset, founded on materialism -- a sense that they can manipulate the future through this material success -- and a lethargy derived from this attained opulence, i.e., through state mechanisms such as courts and other institutions to address things westerners find as injustice either to themselves or their property. (These institutions are all based on the force of arms, but that foundation is hidden and not acknowledged) Muslims for the most part don't have this world view. Even the elite in the Muslim world must still etch out their path within the confines of Western Hegemony or its right arm capitalism. So yes, this misinterpretation of this Muslim will to achieve liberation or theo-politico goals as insanity is continuing to drive the divide between the Western elite and the Muslim world that some have called a clash of civilization. This is not the case at all, Muslims civilians, clerics and guerillas are using space age technologies to resist whenever they can, so how is this a clash of civilization? Since there is no rejection of the mark of Western civilization, that is, its technology per se, some Muslims merely, reject the social application of that technology not technology itself.

Anyhow, Akber, if there is a link please post it. I'll dig around too.

As far as the destruction of Lebanon goes, it seems that there are two models working in tandem in the Pax Americana, either become a puppet gov't or a failed state, a la Afghanistan, Sudan and Iraq. The destruction of Lebanon may be the end all after all. Neither of these state of states can challenge the ability of the empire to amass wealth and implement policy. The real threats are those feisty rogue states.

How does John Pilger manage to state so succinctly what is so bloody obvious? Would that I were possessed of such a circumferential British perspicacity of wit that I could make such revelatory pronouncements to the world as if I had just been bonked by Newton's apple. True as he says it, but did he just discover this yesterday? Perhaps I should find such presence of mind reassuring, but it only pisses me off.

hey figg newton, you're funny.

But, why stop at criticizing JP? Why not share your assessment with us, since you have such a firm understanding of the situation in the Middle East.

And I mean that sincerely.

qrswave,

This isn't in response to the clip but I thought I would put it here and maybe a couple of other threads if it's OK.

Since it most of us already knew it but now that it has entered into the media about zionists invading blogs

and sites to disrupt the information exchange I thought we could 'take it to them'. I happened on this site and if you check his profile you will find a list of like minded racist 'superior' zionists that need a dose of reality. Take the time to stop by and educate them.

qrswave- Hardly one to pillage such outstanding work as Pilger's,( and I mean that sincerely ), I am now doubly pissed off at having just typed quite a lengthy rejoinder and somehow managed to entirely dump it by accident. Let's see now, I remember mentioning his video documentary of Palestine, which is indispensable, and suggesting that his willingness to slog through a ruined public arts center in Gaza which had been smeared by IDF with their own feces, would seem to lend him some considerable street cred. Having found his live interviews to be quite candid and confrontational,( though notwithstanding a certain 'limey' modicum of decency he bestows on subjects quite unworthy of it ), I have come to expect a certain element of brutal honesty from this man. Now that I know of what he is capable, I must hold his feet to the fire. He has been there, done that, and been back again to tell us about it. He was one of the very first to crack open the blood-stained window of Middle East atrocity and its' real perpetrators, and has been invaluable in that regard. So I can only imagine him dashing off such tepid poppycock as above referenced article out of sheer anguish fatigue. And that pisses me off as well. After all he has seen and witnessed, that may be a demon he must confront. I was quite put off by the idiotically grinning visage at the header, and I would hate to see such great talent slopping at the same BBC fed trough as Robert Fisk ( his erstwhile compatriot milquetoast savant du jour ) His interview of Dori Gold is a classic case study of how to make an obfuscating Jew squirm in his seat, and an aborted attempt to nail Douglas Feith is hilarious. But it all boils down to getting at the very nut of this collossal fatal flaw in our creation that has festered and ruptured in the Mideast, and he is one who deserves that assignment, and is equal to the work. Then please no more irrelevant quasi-historic drivel,( as you yourself made note of about the bomb-dodging BBC goon in that video ) when it's already high time we went.
