Ahmadinejad is Jewish?

A photograph of the Iranian president holding up his identity card during elections in March 2008 clearly shows his family has Jewish roots.

A close-up of the document reveals he was previously known as Sabourjian – a Jewish name meaning cloth weaver.

The short note scrawled on the card suggests his family changed its name to Ahmadinejad when they converted to embrace Islam after his birth.

The Sabourjians traditionally hail from Aradan, Mr Ahmadinejad's birthplace, and the name derives from "weaver of the Sabour", the name for the Jewish Tallit shawl in Persia. The name is even on the list of reserved names for Iranian Jews compiled by Iran's Ministry of the Interior. Full Story

I call bullshit on this. 'ian' is a common Armenian surname ending, but not one I have ever encountered amongst chosen surnames.

Now who would be trying to discredit Ahmadinejad by painting him as a self-hating Jew?

I totally agree, Tom

Despite my previous doubts as to whether Iran actually needs nuclear power, it is not my decision to make.

A quick google search shows that it is indeed being used as propaganda by the choosen. Since that picture of him holding his papers was from March 2008, why wait 1 1/2 years to make it an issue? Would it change anything Mahmoud has said, were some of his ancestors Jewish? Would it negate his conversion to Islam? Would it change the fact that Arabs are Semites? (not that all Iranians are)

i detect the foul odor of ***e propaganda, smells like obama's birth certificate, lol
