Death Penalty for Foreknowledge of 9/11

In light of the recent resurgence of Fox's 4-part report suggesting that Israelis had foreknowledge of 9/11, I would say that it's pretty ironic that the government would ask a jury to execute "al-Qaeda operative Zacarias Moussaoui . . . charging that the French citizen withheld critical information that would have exposed the Sept. 11 plot."
"This man knew there was a ticking bomb in the United States," prosecutor Robert Spencer told a federal jury. "He lied so his brothers could go forward with this," he said. "He caused the deaths of nearly 3,000 people; he rejoiced in the death and destruction."

* * *

Execution hinges on whether prosecutors prove that Moussaoui lied or withheld from federal agents critical information that could have been used to prevent some of the 9/11 deaths.
I can't help but reflect on the irony.

I think the case against Moussaoui is weak and hope he is not executed.

But we shall see what happens.

Whatever happens, he certainly handled his defense like a true nut job. (shouting in court "I am al queda!")

Does not really win points with a jury.

I think he is a mentally deranged man - more proof that he should not be executed.

Moussaoui is deranged, reports say his own Ql Qaeda compatriots regarded him as nuts and worthless. Then take that sort of guy and put him solitary confinement for years. it would make a sane person shout. I hope they don't execute him as well.

He was too unstable to do much good or evil and not much good on his pilot training. However, I agree that solitary confinement for long periods is worse than death.

That is the vicious philosophy behind the very public and persistent Guantanamo and the revelation of Abu Ghraib pictures. How do you deter those bound for certain death? By showing them a life worse than sudden death. Makes perfect sense to me.

vper1,

Yes, that is true. But it only proves the man is a nutjob and should not be executed.

vper1,

It was pretty funny when he said that. I mean, can you imagine sitting in the courtroom, and hearing that? It was about on par with Michael Jackson showing up to court in his pajamas.

Both men are absolutely insane.

for example: Prosecution Says Moussaoui Trained to Lie

The question is, by whom? The government says Al Qaeda. But, why should we trust them?

I have no idea why Moussaoui is crazy. It really doesn't matter.

The government did not prove its case, and they may execute a mentally insane man.

This is an absolute miscarriage of justice. I have generally examined the case, and the evidence is underwhelming, to say the least. I hope the case is overturned.

I have no idea why the man is crazy, and the article by the mom does not prove he was made insane by the feds.

In any case, it is not helpful to focus on this. It makes a defense of Moussaoui to seem based on conspiracy theories. The bottom line is the government did not prove its case with the evidence they presented. THAT is more than enough to overturn the verdict. But we'll see what happens.

U.S. Intelligence had more foreknowledge than Moussaoui could have dreamed of."

Don't forget Israeli intelligence.

And...

"the FBI was aware years before Nine-Eleven that al Qaida planned to slam planes into prominent buildings."

Wow! Explosive. Where the hell is this in the MSM?

QRS,

Hello, it is pretty obvious. The media covered this. Condi Rice famously told the 9/11 Commission she had a memo titled "Bin Laden to Attack U.S.

This is not new information and it WAS covered by the media.

Please stop with the bullshit that somehow the government "covered up" what they knew.

The sick thing is that it has been openly revealed that they have knowledge of attacks coming and did nothing. This is why I am confused what you hope to accomplish with your multiple posts. Instead of focusing on conspiracy theories, why not focus on what is already revealed to the public? Why the public is not riled up over what they already know is truly mind boggling.

Oh, and for the record, it is not Israel's job to defend American planes on American soil. That is America's job.

Whether or not Israel had knowledge of 9/11 prior to the event (and you say it's a fact, when it is mere conjecture), the important thing to note is that key American officials knew and did nothing about what would happen.

For the record, it took me a while to get to that point, and for years refused to acknowledge that fact. But the evidence is just overwhelming, most damningly with Richard Clarke's testimony before the 9/11 Commission, as well as Condi Rice's statement of a memo titled "Bin Laden to Attack United States."

Instead of focusing on conpiracy theories about Israel, who could not have stopped 9/11 even if the country wanted to (as it simply is not in charge of the FAA, NORAD, flight security, airport security, and the like), or any supposed "proof" that Bush planned 9/11, why not focus on the public record and proveable facts, which get you a hell of a lot further than conjecture?

The facts alone (and NOT conjecture) are so damning, it really is incredible that Bush was not impeached years ago.
