POLICE STATE

If you harbored any doubt that we live in a police state, this should dispel it.

Not only do they have all the MONEY, but they have all the GUNS, too.

In my community we recently had a small contingent of bicycle riders participate in a peaceful ride, otherwise known as critical mass. We must've had 17-18 riders tops.

Throughout the duration of this ride we were followed by a police helicopter. It really baffled me as to why we needed to be monitored. We did not spread terror,we abided all traffic laws. We were PEACEFUL.

Although critical mass is small in my area, it draws quite an abudant and intrepid crowd throughout other cities such as San Francisco and New York.

I recently was invited to watch a screening of Still We Ride, a documentary about critical mass in NYC. I was not suprised to see the treatment people were subjected to by authorities. The film depicts riders being trapped in nets, frivilous lawsuits to try and halt the ride and more inane subjegation. I encourage everyone to view this film to get an idea of what is happening first hand. Or even better: find a critical mass in your area. Participate, and see what kind of attention you draw.

It doesn't surprise me.

But, it is both ironic and outrageous that in "the land of the free" you can't even ride your bike in peace.
