"Hollywood, we're missing a stereotype here"

Hollywood seems to have an endless fascination with certain stereotypes, like the ones showing my Italian DNA as some overgrown, flabby pasta eating thugs, always sitting in a restaurant gulping down mountains of spaghetti while discussing how to "whack" someone.

Or the movies showing African-Americans as wearing about 20 pounds of gold and chugging malt liquor while planning on how to take over the crack trade.

The portrayal of Irish-Americans as living in some Northern Ireland blarney stone pub, gulping down vast quantities of Guinness Ale while plotting on how to blow up the British soldiers of occupation is a familiar one.

And the favorite stereotype of Hollywood these days, the bomb-throwing, AK47 packing Muslim "fundie" who worships death and hates life.

So Hollywood, where are the movies/TV shows that depict the money-grubbing Jew banker? There's no shortage of material, from the time JC tossed the money changers out of the Temple, to the "Shylocks" of the Middle Ages to today, where the Federal Reserve is controlled by Jews and giving away trillions of dollars to their buddies on Wall Street, another Jewish enclave.

C'mon, don't be shy! Turn that mirror inward and give us some monster Speilberg flick about money-grubbing Jew bankers. With all the scams, cons and outright thefts going on in the US Treasury Department and Wall Street, there's enough material for a dozen or so flicks.

Some might say this is "anti-Semitic." I disagree. If Hollywood can slander and malign billions of Italians, Irish, Blacks and Muslims, then it should have no problem with making movies spoofing money-grubbing Jew bankers.

Greg,

Sorry about the long post, I have always wanted to discuss this but never got the chance.

You already know that Bollywood is being the biggest film industry and guess whose fishy smelling greedy hands creeping over there to take control of the movie industry?

Yes, it is 'bout time to take over Bollywood. Just like Hollyjood, Muslim characters are portrayed either as gangsters, Talibanistic backward looneybags or as evil Paki spies. Wouldn’t it be fun if the Hindus & Muslims start killing each other off so that Mohel & Moshe CO. ® get rich pronto by supplying arms to rival groups? Indians are known for hoarding up gold.

If there is a Muslim male character in a Bollywood movie – he is a guy with a Muslim sounding name only. He doesn’t see the ideological differences between two religions – as if Hinduism & Islam can be interchanged easily (like the way Hollywood promotes Judeo-Christianity). He gets the prettiest, compassionate & progressive girl at the end - a Hindu girl, never a Muslim.

Muslim female characters are often portrayed as being squashed to death by her fanatic Muslim family. So she has to escape her tyrannical life and find a good, compassionate & progressive guy – always a Hindu guy, never a Muslim.

They often shows beautiful, intelligent & sexy Hindu couple finding love & settle down but you’ll never see that happening among young, beautiful, intelligent & sexy Muslims couple. They are barbaric beasts; they are not capable of loving each other.

I am not a religious Muslim so it doesn’t bother me. But what type of message does it send to those who can balance better (than I do) being religious & progressive?

Up to 90’s, they used the show both religions respecting each other’s belief systems and getting along great. I grew up watching those types of movies myself. Everything started to change after 90’s, Bollywood had their eyes set on getting financial & technical support from Hollywood. That dream came into reality until last few years. Now, Warner Bros is there, Sony is there and they are making Bollywood movies with Goldstein’s money.

You didn’t see any decent Indian characters in movies or on TVs until last few years. Some characters were awful & sub human – like that priest character from Indiana Jones and some were just stupid & pathetic.

When it comes to racism & stereotyping – Hollywood leads the way & it is always been the mother juice, no matter how much they like to shove their PCness on our faces. Heh… we know better! :)

When I lived in Mexico City I went down to Churubusco Studios to see if there were any parts as an extra for foreigners. I went a few times, and on one visit I saw a Rabbi with a briefcase hanging around.

The studios in MC appear to be some extension of Hollywood, even though they're owned by the Mexican Government (officially).

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estudios_Churubusco

Some film producer told me if you want to succeed in Hollywood you have to know computers and Yiddish. No kidding.

A couple of Jewish guys who were starting a studio in Seattle offered me a "gopher" job. I could have worked on a Spielberg film, but instead I took a job in Japan.

I remember a comment by Whoopi Goldberg who said she wasn't getting anywhere in Hollywood until she changed her last name to Goldberg and then her carreer took off.

Just another "coincidence", huh?
