The Tribe goes after Obama's Supreme Court pick

I have no opinion on Obama's pick to the SCOTUS, Sonia Sotomayor one way or the other, nor did I know who she was.... until I did some research.

Seems like a certain group of people hold Sonia in low esteem, hurling stealth insults and innuendoes her way.

Sonia must not be a true friend of that SLC, maybe? Will the tribe send in the big guns to take down Sonia like they did when the LOBBY went after Chas Freeman?
The Case Against Sotomayor by Jeffrey Rosen

Indictments of Obama's front-runner to replace Souter.

I haven't read enough of Sotomayor's opinions to have a confident sense of them, nor have I talked to enough of Sotomayor's detractors and supporters, to get a fully balanced picture of her strengths.

But that won't stop Rosen from hurling anonymous insults at Sonia.

From Rosen to New Republic Editor "Marty" Peretz, to Literary Editor Leon Wieseltier to Editor at large Peter Beinart to Senior Editor Jonathan Chait, the Tribe seems to have a problem with Sonia.

But the Tribe sent out a "distress" call to help Rosen and the Kosher Nostra rode to his defense by heaping praise on Rosen and his erroneous article.

Why not pile on with slurs and insinuations, like this one that implies Sonia's into orgies, from that fount of knowledge, Wikipedia.
In an interview with the Sacramento Bee she spoke of her relationship with her husband: "We love each other very much and make no qualms about showing it, within the realm of public decency of course. That is to say, in public we are normal, but at home we are as affectionate and exhibitionistic as we want, with whomever we want." Others, including a former Princeton classmate Tarin McDaniels, have suggested they have had sexual relationships with Sotomayor and her husband.

Which has already been scrubbed from Wikipedia in the last two hours. Amazing how quickly reality changes!

This woman is the best we can hope for. If the demons from ziostan oppose her, that's good enough for me!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

See the ADL home page for their semi-endorsement.

"We applaud President Obama for having selected this noted jurist to be the Court's first Hispanic and third woman Justice. If confirmed, she will undoubtedly bring an important new perspective to the work of the Court.

Now it is the Senate's turn to fulfill its constitutional responsibility to thoroughly review Judge Sotomayor's record and qualifications. As this process moves forward, ADL will share with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee key issues they should explore with Judge Sotomayor, as we have done with past nominees."

GB - thanks for sharing this important piece. didn't know they were opposing her. I concur with my colleague, Clay - their opposition to her is good enough to win my endorsement.

KS - thanks for the excerpt. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

look forward to following developments.
