Tehran has Washington by the cojones

Iran believes the U.S. and Britain are mired in Iraq and cannot spare the military muscle to pick a fight.

* * *
The Security Council cannot deal with Iran like Iraq, ruined by war and obliged to give UN inspectors unfettered access.

* * *
"As President George Bush might privately put it, Tehran has Washington by the cojones," wrote Oxford University professor Timothy Garton Ash.

Iran not only has a formidable military, but it has strong economic ties with Russia and China, both of whom wield vetoes on the Security Council.

The US and Britain bulldozed their way into Iraq, but how will they handle Iran?
On Monday, senior officials from Britain, the U.S., Russia and China will meet in London to try and agree on how to proceed.

* * *
[The] United States repeatedly has told Tehran that developing nuclear weapons capability is unacceptable.

* * *
[But,] experts [estimate] Iran is at least five years away from being able to produce a nuclear bomb.

Five years away. So what's the unstated urgency, could it be Iran's oil bourse that's slated to open in March?

[Jack Straw] insisted the dispute with Iran "can only be resolved by peaceful means."

* * *
[But,] US officials . . . won't rule out a unilateral military strike.

* * *
German deputy Foreign Minister Gernot Erler said imposing economic sanctions against Iran for its nuclear policy would be a "very dangerous path" and could "lead to an escalation that can get out of control."
Will cooler heads prevail? Your guess is as good as mine. But, don't hold your breath.
Hans Blix, who led the pre-war UN inspection team in Iraq, accuses Europe and the U.S. of not giving Iran enough economic and political incentives to make a deal.

At one point, Iran seemed ready to do so...

The deal tabled included allowing Iran to buy a light-water reactor and ending trade restrictions on spare parts, which helps explain the tendency of Iranian planes to fall out of the sky.

Iran then balked at an offer to have Russia supply enriched uranium, saying Moscow's recent gas dispute with Ukraine shows how easy it is for a supplier to turn off the tap.
He raises a very good point. We all know what happens when those who supply that which we need to survive decide to turn off the tap.
[W]hen credit is created out of "thin air" and returned on the maturity day to the bank this amounts to a withdrawal of money from the economy, i.e, [a] decline in the money stock . . . because there wasn't any original saver/lender, since this credit was created out of "thin air."

It follows then that the sole cause behind the wide swings in the stock of money [i.e., economic booms and depressions] is the existence of fractional reserve banking, which gives rise to unbacked-by-savings credit. (Mises thinks INTEREST is okay. Minor dispute. We know better.)
Ahmedinjad is no fool. MONEY and ENERGY make the world go 'round. What would you do for your people, if you were him?

When peak oil comes around, Iran will need an alternate source of energy. Who would you allow to control your country's destiny?

Both the US and Britain have bankrupted themselves by engaging in an illegal the war on Iraq and Afghanistan. Most Americans and Brits have no idea of the fact that they are facing a truly grim future. The Iran bourse will finish off the fiat petrodollar as it should. Collapse of the US will follow. That's what happens when they let an itellectually challenged psycho war criminal rule over them.

Allan says: You abouve are all correct. But I want to add several points:

You know the origin of the game "Chess." It's that the Rulers - whether in the days of Alexander, or old Julius or Charlemagne, or the Middle East, the Rulers and Religions trained the "peasants" to follow orders, and fight and die for them, thus the pawns (foot soldiers) and knights (trained killers-mercenaries(, etc. That is what our own kids-foot soldiers are mindlessessly doing, from the 1st. hours in boot camp- they're mind conditioned (what do you call arriving at camp and being forced to sit up in the hall ways for 18 hrs w/o sleep? SOftening up. Children drilling hours on end- all the while being insulted? Being conditioned!

BUt the end of the U.S. as we know it is here. There's no money - and production and services are sent "offshore", a word to try to fool us, instead of corps. greedily making money in other countries - 'cause it certainly isn't raising the salary/living standards of people there. Perhaps that is the real reason Roman fell -not only was it stretched thin, and no longer homogenous, but it imported ********** from outside.

But as to the subject, this time we're bitting off more than we can chew. We think we're playing games, as toughies, but this time:

1-We're stretched thin and jaded, no equipment- food-armor, bullets, even the boots are falling apart, our kid soldiers are sick.
2- Four years of a futile war behind us, we're losing, if not lost the war, hence coffins in the dead of night. ANd wounded and dying hidden in Germany.
3- Iraq had 24 million poeople- Iran has 80 million
4- Iran terrain is very different - it's mountainous, and forested.
5-Iran troops are fresh, and have been prepared for 4 years for mobilization.
6-Did I mention this time Russia and China are involved - although wahat game they're playing (?) I don't know - since they're doing business with the U.S. and Israel also. There's puppets behind puppets behind puppets here.
7- Those people haven't been worn out with 10 years of sanctions- they're very healthy and vigorous -
THE PERSIANS HAVEN'T BEEN CONQUERED - for centuries- and are warrior blood.

8-The Iraqis were passive in allowing the U.S.-ALlied Coalitn in - thinking they were the "good"guys" - NOW is you think there's "purdah" and veils in Iraqn - think again - this time those people have had a chance to observe and learn.

They're NOT going to stand passive this time. The women - whether in the military or lnot - are going to fight tooth and claw. There's nothing more dangerous than a mother fight for her child.

so in defending their country - this time the U.S. will be dealing with both genders, looking at the experience of the Iraqi.

If we pick on the Iranians - it'll be very heated.

If I were the president of Iran I would have no other recourse than to build an atomic bomb and a nasty one. Bush and his handlers are crazy men and only respect raw power. telling them to go ahead and inspect your facilities would be like inviting them to bomb your infrastructure and invade.This happened in Iraq, whose only sin was that they had no weapons of mass destruction.An example to Iran is N Korea a country Bush is afraid of and which he left in peace.

America is doomed.
It is a country run by fascists more intent on controlling the world (with it's axis of evil partners, Israel and the UK) than it is "spreading democracy" the cover story for any invasion it has undertaken in the last twenty years.
The dollar is set to fall in March of this year, probably when Iran sets up it's oil bourse and won't have the resource to pay all the countries of the world who have dollars in reserve. When it attacks Iran in late spring or early summer, it will be the start of WWIII, with the US on the side of evil for this time. All evidence points to Iran developing nuclear power, yet the Bush administration is dead set on attacking them any way. There is no way they can win, and the diversion of military resources to Iran will only allow Iraq to fall into the hands of the insurgents, who will probably hand the US another defeat along the lines of VietNam.
The American people will likely be brainwashed again by a masive media propaganda program that will keep them pacified until more loved ones come home in body bags, Bush will probably declare martial law and we will be stuck in a dictatorship. Democracy is dead here, money rules everything.

Yes I agree. This to me has nothing to do with Iran developing a nuclear program. This to me is more about the Iranian oil bourse. Just like Saddam changing his petrodollars in 2000. This could get very heated as according to geopolitical analyst Tim Rifat, Iran already has at least 6 nuclear missles. He also predicts that if either the US or Isreal strikes any of its' nuclear plants that Iran will retaliate by taking out Isreals Dimona plant however not neceserially with a nuke.

the yank regime seeks perpetual war. This would allow them to introduce conscription (perhaps even globaly from its coalition partner cronies and stooges)/martial law etc. Its not about winning or losing, but endless, perpetual war. They will keep feeding the worlds kids into the meat grinder endlessly. I recomend re reading 1984, as this predicts what is about to happen fairly accurately.

Dont look for logic, as this is sheer insanity on a global scale. The Robber barons feeding off the corpses of its own poor, to prop up the families of the rich. This is ALL about the confiscation of your wealth. Its about the rich taking the last of your crumbs to store in their personal treasure houses.

Does the U$ citizenry understand that it does not matter who gets elected, and it never has. What do all of these dems or republicans have in common? They are all stinking rich. They take their turns pilliaging the planet, and care not a jot about the plebs, that they never see or have contact with (they are quarintined from the worlds poor). It has always been this way. Wether its the Kerrys, the Bu$hes, or the the kennedys, its all the same. We are grist to their satanic mill.

The western economies are about to collapse. Our standard of living is quickly declining. We are about to engage in inter continental war, and every one will be affected. As many people will die from starvation at home, as from the warfare itself. They want you poor so that they can conscript you, and you will go with pleasure- to feed your family.

How does that poem go, at the start of On the Beach?

This is the way the world ends,
this is the way the world ends,
this is the way the world ends,
not with a bang, but a whimper..

I agree with most everthing posted above. What I wonder is, what should we do about it, as Americans, (to those who that category applies to)? Those who are not Americans should think about this as well. I don't have any naive ideas that a march on Washington or a letter wrtting campaign will have any effect on the course of future events; what I mean is what can we do as individuals and communities to prepare?
It seems that the Iranian oil bourse, Chinese diversification away from dollars, or war with Iran or Syria all have the potential to derail the American economy and hence the world economy in a signifigant way. Personally, I have a degree in International Relations from a very good University, but since I'm reluctant to join the ranks of war planners and world destroyers, I live on a limited income, working for a non-profit organization.
I bring this up because I wonder, what should ordinary Americans like me, without great resources or connections, do to prepare for the seemingly inevitable collapse and resulting war?
Very short term, the answer seems to be; store up enough neccessities to survive any calamities. Longer term, it seems like we need to build community level organizations for group solidarity, support, defense and action in case things get hairy.
Aside from IR, I'm also a student of religion, and I realise that doomsday predictions are about as common as the birth of a sucker. Nevertheless, calamitous events do occur in all kinds of societies that would have laughed off such predictions a year before. I hope I'm just an ignoramus, but it seems to me like we need to get past the point of snarkily proclaiming troubles ahead and to begin actually planning for them.

It's all fun and games played by the Elite.

Russia, China etc...will do what the fuck they are told. They are owned and operated by the Central Banking Houses just like the U.S is.

Talk of a spreading war between great powers is simple "scary" talk to keep peasants of ALL races petrified and looking to the state to protect them. Iranians need not fear asteroid collisions, supervolcanoes, peak oil and global warming but they might want to look out for nuclear "bunker busters" and the all powerful U.S airforce who are about to turn Iran into a car park suitable for a few Walmarts.

The fix is in. Iran was encouraged by Russia and China and now they have withdrawn support. The Arabs and the Persians are SUCH suckers!

I don't know what to say. So many excellent comments, so many good questions.

But, my wrist hurts (carpel tunnel, I think). So, I'll be brief.

Nations do not win wars. Those that finance them do.

God only knows what's ahead. But, I agree that after covering the basics - food, water, fuel and shelter - hard WORKING Americans who believe in life, love, and liberty must do everything in their power to network, pass on the truth, and build the community ties that we'll need to carry us through the coming crisis.

Don't lose faith. Trust in God.

The blame game is going to get very heated soon. But, don't judge a book by its cover. Actions speak louder than words and correlation is NOT causation. Mankind is one. There are those who don't care about anyone but themselves. Judge them for their CONDUCT, and nothing else, lest someone judge you by what someone else has done. In the end you must follow your heart.

Hopefully, we are not witnessing the end of times.

Regardless, if we ever hope to secure our freedom for ourselves and posterity we MUST secure our money supply from the grips of those who would use it time and again to subjugate us and our children.

Many thanks to all who visit and contribute.

Peace.

Also, explore all the money links in the sidebar. I strongly recommend checking out open money.

In addition, when you must buy, use only cash. Trash all your credit cards, and try to create your own credit system between yourself and your vendors/service providers/clients.

And of course, spread the word far and wide. People must learn the truth about how we are being subjugated through our monetary system.

When the truth reaches critical mass, government officials will be forced to fix our monetary system.

Peace.

Re; Peak Oil

I have been following this one a long time. Both sides say science supports their arguement. There are numerous blogs on this subject alone. This is from the Moscow Times..

Transneft: Oil Output Slowing

The country's crude oil output growth will slow significantly in 2005 as companies fail to maintain the hectic growth rates of recent years, crude pipeline monopoly Transneft's head, Semyon Vainshtok, said Tuesday.

"Russian companies have underproduced 14 million tons in January-September compared to what they initially planned," he told reporters during a news conference.

snip...

My take is...even if oil is produced abiotically (and I'm still not convinced)....is it being produced as fast as we are taking it out...and if not, what are the consequences? This isn't the place to debate it, but people should look into both sides of the arguement...and THINK!

peace...

While I will agree that the oil bourse is undoubtedly a factor, to say that Israel plays no role in mideast foreign policy and that to suggest they do is anti-semitism is to be completely out of touch with both the history of the region and with reality. Israel has violated more UN security counsel resolutions than any nation in the middle east (or planet for that matter). They have only gotten away with it because the United states makes it happen....both with arms support and strong arming the UN. Geeez...just take a look at all of the pro-Likud people at the pentagon! Most modern day Israeli's are not even semites but descendants of Kazaars and europeans who converted to Judism. this is from an article at counterpunch.org
Supply versus Demand
http://www.counterpunch.org/everest12132003.html

The demand for energy has been rising by some 2.5 percent a year as industrialization spreads around the world. In 2003, global consumption stood at 77 million barrels of oil a day; by 2010, if these trends continue, it could rise to over 90 million barrels a day, a 17 percent increase.

>>snip

The article is a good read. It helps to understand why industry analysts and many geologists are very concerned that even if oil is abiotic....it simply can't keep up with growing demand.

In 1980, the U.S. and Britain engineered Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran that inflicted nearly 1 million Iranian casualties. Ahmadinejad led volunteers in that war.
